Is there some kind of ID my ESA can wear?
« on: December 24, 2009, 11:26:35 AM »
I am planning on having my doctor write the letter for me to have my little dog certified as my emotional support dog.  Is there some kind of identification she can wear?

I have taken her on buses before, they do allow it.  It is up to the bus driver, and sometimes they do refuse.  I figure with an ID they'd be less likely to refuse.  I am aware that the ESA does not have the same rights as the PSD.

Why? If she isn't allowed, she isn't allowed. If you have her in a vest, it's very likely that people will confuse her for service dog and with ESAs not needing any training, that doesn't seem to be a good idea.

Not really.  Just use a doctor's note.

I take that back.  Some cities will issue a sort of ID card for ESAs, but this is very rare.  So you could check with your bus department and see if they have something like that.  Otherwise there's no "official" ESA ID because unless a local law permits it, they aren't allowed anywhere other than on planes and in "no pets" housing, and in those places a doctor's note is what is needed, not a special ID.
