Tick Bite Problem or Not?
« on: July 27, 2010, 08:13:41 PM »
I plan on calling the vet in the morning (have to go pick up next months flea/tick medicine anyways) but I wanted to see if anyone might know anything about this.

Two days ago I pulled a tick that was still small so probably hadn't been on Sheriff that long.  Tonight I noticed that probably 3/4 inch around the spot where the tick was, which is a tiny bit red and swollen, are some pretty small red blotches.  They don't go all the way around nor are they very large or numerous.  Barely enough for me to notice without really looking in good lighting...but enough for me to go...that isn't exactly right.

Lyme disease usually presents as a circle around the bite...right?  So small blotches (about the size of a typical smiley on this board or less  ) wouldn't fit that right?  Is there something else that is caused by a tick that I should be freaking out about or could this just be some irritation?  There isn't an open wound where the bite was...just a tiny scab in the middle so I don't really have any reason to believe there is an infection.

I am no expert but I did find a tick on my oldest daughter once and after we got it off of her there was a little redness around the area. There was also a little hole. It kind of looked like a bug bite. I think it was red for a day or two. She was ok and didn't get sick from it. I hope this helps

One small red spot where the tick was is common, but I haven't ever seen multiple little spots. I would call the vet to make sure.

That's the plan.  Since I'm going to the vet anyways I'm going to see if they can just take a quick look and not get charged for an entire exam as long as it is nothing to worry about.
