Nuisance is reallllly sick
« on: August 12, 2010, 07:29:49 AM »
Pardon my typing, I have a rat sleeping in my left hand.

I mentioned my rat, Nuisance, before when I thought she was dying, but this time I think she really is.  I took her to the vet last Friday and turns out she has an Upper Respiratory Infection and she's been on two antibiotics since and she seemed to be getting better but tonight she started bleeding from her girl parts.  I called the emergency vet and she said it wasn't a good thing but because the bleeding stopped and she's still eating we should wait until morning to see the exotic vet.

So I have to stay up tonight with her to make sure she doesn't start bleeding again/get worse.  I'm really worried, she's been acting really weird all night and I don't think she has much time left.  There was so much blood and she's so quiet.

If she does pass away it'll be the worst 18th bday...

I have a doc appointment for myself in the morning then we'll go to the vets.  Wish us both luck!

Good luck at the vet's!! I am sorry to hear that Nuisance is having such a rough time. Please keep us updated and let us know what the vet's report is.

Gosh, J!   You and Nuisance are in my thoughts. A rat never had such a loving owner as you.

This could be a biggie.  I do hope all is OK. Just give the little Nuisance lots of love, touching, and your voice during this time

Hugs and luv - Roxie

Well, we're back from the vets.  She did an ultrasound and found that the lining of Nuisance's uterus is thickened on one side and she think's it's a tumor.

She said it's not good and she referred us to an exotic animal hospital but they don't have any open appointments until Monday but Mum works Monday's and we won't be able to go then either so she'll be sick all weekend and maybe longer.

I called the exotic animal hospital and the girl said to give them a call tomorrow and see if they have any cancellations.

We would be able to drop her by this afternoon but Mum has to go to a bloody 21st birthday party, because that's more important that my rat's life!

I think she's stable for now but I'm gonna keep a close eye on her.  I think we'll just admit her to the hospital tomorrow just in case she gets worse or is in a lot of pain, that way the vet can take a look at her if they get a free moment.

I'm not ready to give her up yet.

I'm so very sorry  I hope she can make it till the vets can see her. I was heartbroken when my two rats passed

Time to think and plan for worst - but expect the best! This is a tough time. I'm with you in spirit. I know you will do the right things for Nuisance!

I'm so sorry that your rat is sick, I know how horrible it feels to know that a pet is dying.  I hope she isn't there yet and manages to pull through somehow!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and support! :buddies:

So I called the hospital an hour ago and they said they didn't have any free appointments, however, we should still come in but we may have to wait awhile.  So we're off to the vets this morning and hopefully they'll be able to do something to help her.

She's really gone downhill this last day, not drinking and barely eating.  She had BETTER not die today OR tomorrow because tonight's my birthday dinner and tomorrow is my 18th birthday and I don't want my birthday to always be a day for sadness.  My hamster died in 2007 and I still cry every January 12th (the day he passed).

I hope you all have a great night and I'll let you know how it goes!

Happy Birthday!!!!!  You made it!  And your parents survived, too!!!

Hang in there about Nuisance.

My son Sammy was still born on July 11, 1982. I still cry on that day.

Thanks Roxie!!!

Good-ish news about Nuisance.  Turn out she has a pretty bad infection in her uterus but not as bad as they thought it was.  She's staying at the hospital overnight (maybe longer), so I'm pretty glad I don't have to worry about whether or not I'm giving her enough water... etc. because they're a great hospital and seemed like great, caring people too!  She's got a good chance of being okay.

I'm really sorry about your son, I can't imagine how painful that must have been and probably still is.

My mum's friend Jen was talking to my mum on the phone at the vets this morning (I could hear the conversation) and accidently let it slip that my brother is flying up this arvo just for my birthday dinner!!!  Mum's at the airport picking him up right now, lol, he's such a good brother sometimes.   I'm suprised they kept the secret that long!

I'd better get ready for the dinner now.  I'm so happy things are going better.

Wow, that is good. And knowing the problem is probably a huge relief.
